- Botanical name: Origanum marjorama
- Family: Lamiaceae / Labiatae
- Origin: Native to the Mediterranean region, Egypt and North Africa
- Characteristics: a warm, slightly spicy smell and is colourless to pale yellow / amber in colour
- Blends well with: Bergamot, Cedarwood, Chamomile, Cypress, Lavender, Mandarin, Orange, Nutmeg, Rosemary, Rosewood, Ylang-Ylang
- Common Uses:
- Sweet Marjoram is warming and analgesic, making it useful for analgesic or antispasmodic for muscle aches / pains, muscle spasm, rheumatic pains, sprains and strains, arthritis.
- It stimulates and strengthens intestinal peristalsis, it is a good digestive and carminative, relieving constipation, colic, flatulence and spasmodic indigestion.
- Used as a massage over the lower abdomen, it will ease menstrual cramps. Due to an emmenagogue properties of the oil, its beneficial for treating delayed, scanty or painful periods.
- Sweet marjoram has a flaming effect on the nervous system, relieves anxiety and stress. It is effective for insomnia especially when there is hypertension. It has a warming and comforting effect on the heart.
