Bergamot (FCF)
- Botanical name: Citrus Bergamia
- Family: Rutaceae
- Origin: Calabria in southern Italy
- Characteristics: The oil is a light greenish yellow liquid with an uplifting citrus aroma, yet fruity, sweet and balsamic overtones.
- Blend well with: Jasmine, Frankincense, Geranium, Lavender, Lemon, Ylang-Ylang, Chamomile, Neroli, Cypress, Juniper, Black pepper, clary-sage, Citrus, Rosemary, Sandalwood, Vetiver
- Common Uses:
– It is a valuable antiseptic for urinary tract and infections and inflammation such as cystitis.
– Bergamot oil may be used as an inhalation for respiratory tract infections such as tonsillitis, bronchitis
– Combined with tea tree it is used as a treatment for cold sored, chicken pox and shingles.
– It is useful in relieving colic, flatulence and indigestion. Bergamot is excellent to restore the stomach and liver and awaken the appetite.
– Its sedative and yet uplifting characteristics make it an ideal oil to use for anxiety, depression and nervous tension.
– Bergamot cooling and refreshing quality is also good to soothe anger and frustration. - Precautions:
- (1) DO NOT exposure to sunlight, if this oil is used on the sensitive skin It can cause
burns and skin pigmentation - (2)The high content of bergaptene (Furocoumarin) can cause photo-toxicity
- (3) Bergamot FCF (Furocoumarin Free) can be used on skin care with less than 1% dilution rate but it is still advisable to keep skin out of the sun.
